Kaew (Dean White’s Gym) is a 20 year old professional Muay Thai fighter originally from Buriram, Isaan. He started training at the age of 9, having his first competitive fight in the same year (25kg). At the age of 15 he moved to Bangkok to further his Muay Thai career. His current fighting weight is 55kg and he has had a total of 100 bouts. He currently trains at Muay Thai Plaza 2004, located in Suan Lum Night Bazaar.
Kaew’s day consists of a 7.5km run in Lumpini Park followed by morning training. After this he eats and has a sleep to recharge his muscles before the longer, more intense afternoon training session. This involves a 5km run followed by skipping, pad and bag work, clinching, sparring, weights and exercises. He trains in this manner six days of the week.
Kaew’s family still live in Buriram and he finds the time to visit the region approximately twice a year. If he was not a professional Muay Thai fighter he thinks it is likely he would be a farmer. He says life is very different in Bangkok than if he had remained in Isaan.Kaew’s next fight is at Lumpini Stadium on 1st July. He is scheduled to travel to the UK in August to fight in London.
