LAST WEEK i HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO PREPARE THAI FOOD FOR A GROUP OF GOOD FRIENDS OF MINE,FROM DIFFERENT NATIONALITIES. BEFOREHAND ,I ASKED THEM ALL WHAT KIND OF SPECIAL FOOD THEY WOULD LIKE TO HAVE.MOST OF THEM REPLIED THEY WOULD LIKE TO EAT “SOM TAM” .

On a recent trip to Northern Thailand I had my first experience of ‘yogilates’; a cross-over class combining techniques in yoga and pilates. This is a total body workout with particular attention paid to the core muscles of the midsection. I and my fellow students were guided by Ajarn Caymee, who is originally from Singapore and recently opened her immaculately clean, modern studio in Chang Klan Plaza, Chiang Mai.

Kme year (25kg). At the age of 15 he moved to Bangkok to further his Muay Thai career. aew (Dean White’s Gym) is a 20 year old professional Muay Thai fighter originally from Buriram, Isaan. He started training at the age of 9, having his first competitive fight in the saHis current fighting weight is 55kg and he has had a total of 100 bouts. He currently trains at Muay Thai Plaza 2004, located in Suan Lum Night Bazaar.

The weather around this sunny spot of Thailand is known to be slightly warm and a little variable in the range of temperatures that goes between 39-40 degrees (celsius) most of the year. Nonetheless, weather conditions are dealt with full respect and consideration, all around Issan, and are the main focus and attention of the sweaty habitants all during the day ,and along the seasons.

Far from the legendary creatures with the similar name ,Payanat, that can appear from time to time in different spots ,either on the river or in the sky, the Payat are much less observable to the naked eye, but ,nevertheless,are well present in the local ethos.
