Jaap Kop (frog catching) is never done by daytime, under the revealing indiscrete rays of sun. Nor is it announced beforehand to the large public by the usual kinds of media. The operational code is in fact nothing less than a sign from above that indicates the moment of truth. Only after a considerable and sufficient amount of rain was clearly detected in the area, only then, under a thick cover of secrecy and in the shelter of the dark, few brave men will show up in a designated gathering point, all wearing the indispensable Bat-terry, and what seems to be a kind of a particularly crafted container, ready for the mission. The group will then dissipate in silence in between the darken patches of the muddy Tee Naa (rice fields), each and every man led only by his own fate and by the scarce but reassuring light of the guiding Bat-terry. Not everything is still yet known about the art of the Jaap Kop.

In what seems to be a total dark, disturbed only by a blur ray of light, the determinate and skilful Kon Issan will penetrate through the swamps, paving his way to the hidden target, a target that is evident to his eyes only. The rest of the operation is completed only when the gifted man of mission gets a grab of the slick creature and helps it to find a new and much dry home, in the deep confines of the container, together with some old new friends. As with any other sort of such a complex operation, success is not always guaranteed at the end of the day. With the right blessing, the morning breakfast will be celebrated with some nice crispy pieces of Kop Yaang (barbecued frog), or rather a meaty serving of Mok Kop wrapped up in a banana leaf. With less amount of luck, it will be a thick bowl of Kaeng (curry), made of Kiat- miniature creatures that are believed to be far relatives of the real full bodied Kop (frog).
